Aja Coon

For Aja, creativity is a feeling that strikes out of nowhere, when everything clicks into place and she knows something is just right. Her style is a spectrum of modern and organic, sometimes leaning one way more than the other, but always including both. Working with interior, tabletop, lifestyle, and still life clients, Aja highlights the organic forms of nature and elegance of clean lines.

Aja uses her attention to detail to create unique compositions that have an element of surprise and delight that set her apart in the styling industry. She does her research IRL instead of online, because her approach to prop styling is the same as her approach to life: Go out in the world, see the variety it has to offer, and follow all those odd little paths, because they will take you to interesting places and inspire new ideas. 

Give her any combination of influences (African diaspora slash ‘60s fashion slash Nordic wood slash mud cloths), and she gets it. She works hard before every shoot to find inspiration, research, pull props, organize and prep with the help of a diverse team of assistants. By the time everyone shows up on set, she’s ready to have fun with the rest of the team. Aja lives in Oakland, California, where she can access two things she loves: the density and madness of a big city and the “edge of the earth” feeling of a remote coastline.
